Poker

Poker is a card game played in casinos, private homes, and online. The objective is to win chips from your opponents. It is a popular activity in the United States and Canada. There are many variations of the game, but the basic rules are the same.

The player with the highest poker hand wins the pot. If two players tie, the high card breaks the tie. If one player has the same hand, the secondary pair breaks the tie. If no pair exists, the high card breaks the tie.

A straight flush is five cards of the same suit. An ace high straight flush is called a royal flush. The best natural hand is a straight flush.

The minimum hand is sometimes a pair of jacks. In a game involving a pot limit, the ace may be treated as the lowest card.

The first player to be dealt cards is the dealer. If no one calls the opening bet, the pot will play.

If the player calls the bet, he is obligated to make the next bet. If he folds, he is said to drop. The player who folds loses the rights to the pot.

If the player raises, he is obligated to match the bet. If he does not raise, he must fold. The other players must call or fold.

A player can bet or bluff by betting that he has the highest hand. He can also check the pot or drop out of the side pot. If he drops out of the side pot, he forfeits his rights to the original pot.
